# Protocol decoding

## Before you start

A capture with known framing, channel mapping and sample timing.

## Workflow

Select the protocol supported by the decoder, configure its parameters and retain the raw capture. Compare decoded frames with the failing firmware path. Attach the relevant interval to Ask AI.

## Interpret the result

A decoded label is an interpretation of sampled data. Framing errors, insufficient sample rate and electrical faults need independent verification.

For an unexplained result, preserve the source/configuration and observation together. Use [Diagnose a failure](/workflows/diagnose) to turn it into a reproducible investigation. Check [support boundaries](/reference/limitations) before assuming a vendor-specific operation is implemented.
