## Before you start

## Workflow

Use Search for text, Outline for the active document structure and References for uses of a symbol. Follow source/header ownership before changing a low-level API.

## Interpret the result

Text matches and semantic references answer different questions. Disabled preprocessor branches and missing include paths can affect semantic results.

For an unexplained result, preserve the source/configuration and observation together. Use [Diagnose a failure](/workflows/diagnose) to turn it into a reproducible investigation. Check [support boundaries](/reference/limitations) before assuming a vendor-specific operation is implemented.
