# Explore the firmware demo

> Use the bundled example to inspect code, hardware documentation and build results.

The bundled example targets STM32F405 and includes firmware sources, FreeRTOS material, drivers, linker scripts and a bootloader subproject. It is an example for a particular target, not a template for every MCU.

## A useful ten-minute exercise

1. Choose **Try demo** from the welcome screen. The tour opens source and explains the workspace.
2. Inspect `main.c`, its includes and the driver sources. Find the target and linker configuration before changing code.
3. Run **Build**. If the compiler is missing, use tool detection to identify the dependency instead of changing the source.
4. In the editor, try register completion after `RCC->`. Hover a documented register and inspect its address, access and fields.
5. Use the hover's **Ask AI** link. Ask: “Explain the IWDG prescaler using the attached SVD and cite its source. What still requires the reference manual?”
6. Compare the response with the attached evidence. A reset value is not a measurement from a running board.
7. If a supported simulator is configured, use that session for debugging. Otherwise connect matching hardware and explicitly select the image and probe.

The tour never flashes a board automatically. Replay it from **Help**. On your own project, the navigation is the same but the chip-specific example instructions may not apply.

## Next experiment

Make a small source change, rebuild, and inspect the diff and build output. Attach an actual compiler diagnostic to Ask AI. This demonstrates the edit/build/diagnose loop without requiring a probe.
