CMake and Make projects
Keep toolchain files, presets and compiler options authoritative.
Open the directory containing the native build configuration. Prefer existing CMake presets when supplied: they can own the generator, toolchain, output directory and flags. Choose configure/build presets in Build Setup.
Without presets, select the build type in Build Setup. Keep compiler selection in the native toolchain file. An additional tool directory helps discovery; it must not be used as a substitute for an SDK/toolchain definition.
CMake-generated compilation databases drive source assistance. The configured build cache supplies compiler/binutils paths for artifact inspection. A cache from another source directory or a missing SDK is an error to repair, not a reason to silently choose a different architecture.
For Make, ensure the expected targets and environment work in the project terminal. Native Makefiles may not generate a compilation database automatically; follow your toolchain’s method of exporting one.
